Our Mission

Our mission is to preserve and display the wildlife of Honduras.

How We Operate

Roatan Zoo & Island Adventure is located on an 11 acre sanctuary. This animal refuge strives to operate a self-sustaining wildlife conservation facility that focuses on Honduras' flora, fauna, and indigenous tribes. The animals are brought to the park after being confiscated from the illegal animal trade, orphaned, injured, or donated by private individuals. Once at the park, the animals are evaluated for their ability to survive in the wild. If they are sick, they are cured and then re-evaluated. If they are deemed releasable, they go through a quarantine period and then are released back into the area from which they came.

History

The park began operating as a rescue facility in September of 2007, and is currently undergoing Phase II of construction, which includes, among other things, permanent housing for the non-releasable residents and the animal hospital.
